Here are some of the things I’m working on these days:

LATEST UPDATE: I’m super-psyched to announce the launch of my new series of bluegrass lessons on YouTube! Please check out my vids, subscribe to my channel, and consider joining my Patreon community.

(1) Group Classes and Jam Sessions

Each and every week I send out an e-mail to all of my students listing my upcoming classes, jams, workshops, etc. If you would like to be added to my e-mail list and receive my weekly updates, or have any questions whatsoever about my teaching, please e-mail me at tonywatt@gmail.com

(2) Bluegrass Tuesdays at Lily P’s

Bluegrass Tuesdays began in Central Square in Cambridge in September of 1993 and has since grown to become one of the longest-running and most-successful bluegrass nights in the country. For 27 years, Tuesday Night Bluegrass was hosted by Geoff Bartley at The Cantab Lounge, welcoming regional and national artists on stage and serving as a weekly gathering place for the local bluegrass community. Bluegrass Tuesdays are now hosted by Tony Watt and held at chef Chris Parsons’ restaurant Lily P’s Fried Chicken & Oysters in Kendall Square in Cambridge.

(3) JamVember

JamVember is a weekend-long “non-festival” focused on jamming, jamming, and more jamming… with scores of workshops and jams hosted by dozens of amazing musicians and teachers, and one big difference from usual festivals: no stage show to distract from the picking. JamVember is held the weekend before Thanksgiving, at the Sheraton in Framingham, MA.

(4a) Berklee College of Music

I am now an Associate Professor in Berklee’s Ensemble Department, taking over for Dave Hollender who taught at Berklee for 37 years. My primary role is coaching bluegrass ensembles, and I also hope to offer some bluegrass guitar instruction, although I will never be able to fill the giant shoes of the late, great John McGann. This job is without a doubt, the honor of a lifetime, and I couldn’t be more grateful.

(4b) Berklee’s Aspire: Five-Week Summer Program

Know any teens interested in playing bluegrass at Berklee over the summer? At Berklee’s Aspire: Five-Week summer program, Berklee gives away over ten million dollars in scholarships! The world’s most comprehensive summer music performance program, Aspire: Five-Week Music Performance Intensive draws musicians from more than 70 countries to Boston for the summer of a lifetime. From one-on-one instruction with Berklee’s renowned faculty to a rigorous curriculum offering college credit, this immersive program will enhance your instrumental or vocal performance mastery.

(5) Boston Bluegrass Union

The Boston Bluegrass Union is an all-volunteer New England-based bluegrass music association promoting and supporting bluegrass festivals, concerts, jams, and bluegrass music education throughout the Northeast. The BBU is best known for its flagship event, the Joe Val Bluegrass Festival, held over President’s Day Weekend at the Sheraton in Framingham, MA. Tony currently serves as the Education Co-Director and Vice President of the BBU.
